Alexandra Savvopoulou
My artistic name is Alexandra Savvo. I am a self-taught, award-winning visual artist and a poet-performer.
My academic background focuses on political sociology, philosophy, and the narrative capacity of the human mind. In my artistic practice, I merge poetry, theater, and performance art, with an emphasis on mnemonic performative techniques, creating hybrid compositions that explore the osmosis between everyday life and art.
My work delves into themes such as environmental art, biopolitics, corporeality, social pathology phenomena and intergenerational dialogue. I live in Gytheio — the “Land of the Gods” — a small coastal town of about 5,000 inhabitants in Eastern Mani, southern Greece. Our region, deeply scarred by recent devastating wildfires, stands at the historical heart of modern Greek identity: it was from Mani, on March 17th, 1821, that the Greek War of Independence was ignited, leading to the creation of the first independent state in Southeastern Europe.
This land, shaped by resilience, collective memory, and the forces of nature, profoundly inspires my artistic exploration of trauma, the environment, and historical consciousness.I am currently unemployed. To survive, I take on unskilled labor jobs.Since 2017, I have been actively involved in the arts without any financial support.Today, I am the elected president of the Cultural and Educational Association of Gytheio, established in 1983 where I have been actively volunteering as a registered member for 13 years.
I would love to be part of the DIGI HELICON Virtual Exhibition, as I believe it offers a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary and experimental artistic expressions, especially for underrepresented creators from disadvantaged backgrounds. It is a true honor for me to coexist artistically with creators from all over Europe, sharing visions, experiences, and narratives through the DIGI HELICON Virtual Exhibition.

A wall-mounted figure composed of three parts: tree bark, painted cardboard, and thorns. This artwork was exhibited at my first solo art exhibition at the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Eastern Mani in 2019, at the 4th Genoa Biennale in 2021, at the Medicea Fortress in Montepulciano, Siena, and was selected by the Modigliani Foundation to participate in the foundation’s exhibition in Rome, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Amedeo Modigliani’s death in 2020.
