Alagie Malick Ceesay

My name is Alagie Malick Ceesay. I’m originally from The Gambia and currently live in Palermo, Italy. I’m a student, and over the years I’ve been involved in various social projects.

In 2018, I took part in a documentary project about the Danisinni neighborhood, where we conducted interviews and filmed the local residents. It was during this project that I met someone who saw something in me that I hadn’t yet discovered myself: Walter Balducci, a professor at La Sapienza University in Rome. He was the one who helped me uncover the passions I carry within me.

Between 2018 and 2019, I worked with the project Voce del verbo Viaggiare and the organization Cotti in Fragranza as a photography and communications assistant. There, I was fortunate to meet my mentors Eliana Amato and Luca Savettiere, and at the end of the project, I participated in a photography course with their guidance.

At the end of 2019, I held my first photography exhibition, titled First View, with the support of local organizations. The goal was to share the beauty of Sicily and highlight the emotional impact of seeing something unexpected at just the right moment.

Today, I continue to work as an independent photographer on various personal projects, mainly photo essays. I also collaborate as a videographer and photographer with local groups such as Blitz and Itastra.
Outside of photography, I do a number of jobs—such as working as a tour guide for an organization called Attraverso i miei occhi and as a waiter.

I love traveling, taking pictures, connecting with people and nature. I enjoy discovering the world, meeting new people, listening to music, and writing.

Here is a glimpse of what I do:

PROSPETTIVA DALL'ALTO

A different point of view—
Instead of always looking from just one side,
try switching sides. I’m sure you’ll see things differently.
And maybe something will come to mind…
though I’m not sure if you’ll find the words to describe what you see.
I did find words,
but I’m not sure they’re the right ones to truly express
what I saw from both sides.

When I was younger, I used to imagine
what it might feel like to be above the clouds.
Now I understand how beautiful it really is.
It’s possible—
and it’s far more wonderful to see things from above,
or up close,
than always looking from below.
