Marie ESCARABAJAL

Since my retirement, I fully devote myself to artistic creation, mainly through sculpture. My professional career was spent in education, within the multimedia sector.
To partake in the DIGI HELICON virtual exhibition would be a logical continuation: it now seems to me that it is absolutely essential to exist in the digital space. This project represents, for me, the convergence of my fields of expertise, but also, more generally, the recognition of the profound interconnection between reality and virtuality. I see in it a beautiful opportunity to share my work in an innovative context and in resonance with contemporary issues.

Nébuleuses

“Nebulae” is composed of two pieces I made by assembling wooden boxes of cheeses of various sizes, that I’ve burnished with walnut stain or simply waxed. I like to divert these everyday objects, modest and familiar, to give them a new life, to divert them from their function. By bringing them together, I sought to create a form that would evoke both the infinitely large and the infinitely small:: a celestial nebula, a living cell, a form in expansion. My interest here is the dialogue between fullness and emptiness, between repetition and uniqueness, between the raw material and a sort of visual lightness. “Nebulae” is also a way of making my movements resonate with the world, by starting with practically nothing. At the beginning there’s always a gathering of objects I like: there were potato peels, muselets, and today, boxes of camembert. The little things of daily life. I stockpile a lot, and one day, without really knowing why, the idea appears, organizes itself in a narrative…
